I spent this weekend drawing at Folkmusiknatta i Falun (Folk Music Night in Falun) There where three stages, with performers playing traditional Swedish folk music, new folk stuff, American, and a little Indian. The musicians would play in the hallways or waiting rooms and jam, or join in with strangers who were playing familiar folk music. Members of the bands would also join in before or after their show. Some of these groups would have 8-20 people. It was from 6pm till 1am, and I pretty much drew the whole time. So I'm counting it as 2 days of drawing.
Hawkins Hawaii Trio. The band was great to listen to. Great slide guitar from this guy. I kind of rushed drawing the instrument, and should of added more detail. I also had to draw this in the dark so I used a 3mm, 6b lead.
The guy on the top had a great little stance while playing. I tried, but couldn't capture it. The other sketches are of Deliverance. A bluegrass group that sang all the songs, in English without a Swedish accent! I was amazed at how authentic they sounded. The guy on mandolin was an awesome singer. It was fun to listen to the bands introduce themselves or the songs in Swedish, but say the titles in English.
I found these two playing in the stairwell. They had a nice little area all to themselves. They had these great little stances while they played that was hard to capture. The girl was more hunched over, as if she was trying to hide. She played harmonica and sounded awesome.
Crazy old man. Thats all I got to say.
There was one room that played folk dance music all night. Toward the end of the night they had 25 people on the stage playing mostly fiddles.
