In the morning I had this really boring event at a furniture store "grand re-opening." Hardly anybody showed up. They gave away $10000 dollars in store credit to some family, and $100 to the first 100 people. It was sad really, after 5hours they still were not at 100 customers. After that I zipped off to work and drew for 3 busy hours. My marker was just dancing all over the page. The sketches were drawing themselves, and I was having so much fun just drawing as fast as I could.
This lady said that when she shows this to her son, his eyes are gonna pop right out of his skull. Old people say silly things.

I think your stuff is great Mike. Its so unique. I actually try to duplicate some of your one line face shapes whenever I draw a beard, like your Bob Ross picture.
Cool stuff dude. Nice to see you breaking out of your usual sketches and really tearing into people.
You should have made that horse a Mer-horse. That would have been cooler. And that means you would have been cooler. Too bad though. Maybe next time.
Bill- Thanks dude. I was just really feeling it that day.
Will- You mean a sea-horse dork?
bro, i love your work. very clean with a great likeness. i wanted to know what type of marker you and joe use for your caricature sketches. last i heard the design art markers were phased out. Do either of you guys sketch out the caricature first with a pencil or do you just "go at it" with the markers? i worked for kamans years ago under Harold the dude from argentina and some souless dude named don. Working at knotts , most of us sucked except for a few. i'll run down a list of people you might've met.... john baldwin, jayson landsburg, jose ramirez, gerry , rhaban (rayban), robert and his wife roberta.... Just checking out your sketches brings back alot of memories. keep up the great work bro.
I do see Harold and Don every so often. We sometimes do gigs together. They trained me when I started at Sea World. I draw with John Baldwin for "The Haunt" at Knotts every year.
The marker we use is called a Markette marker. Very similar to the Design. In the park and for most gigs I just jump into it , without sketching. When I watched Joe draw in my park he did a quick 5-10sec under sketch that was mostly just a face shape. And he would place that under his paper when he drew. If you check out his blog he explains his process for some of his drawings, and the materials he used. He sometimes does something different depending on the face.
Hope that helps
john baldwin got back into knotts?... last i heard, before i left, he was fired after coming into work drunk in a wolverine costume and waving his "claws" at his boss. (rob) How did he return?. Whats harold been up to? he work at legoland as well?.
Actually, i stumbled upon your site after visiting joe's blog. that mofo has some awesome shit yo. How long does it take him to do a sketch. They look like they take a good half hour but that wouldnt be possible in your line of work. Was he just there visiting as a kamans trainer. Dino Casterline use to come down when i worked there but joe blows that fool out of the water. Did joe ever give you any advice on what accelerated his unique abilities?.... well gabe, if i ever visit legoland, i'll be sure to drop by and get a caricature from you. i'll check your awesome sketch blog when i can. take it easy.
Thanks sissy!
First time I've seen your in park work and I'm impressed, nice clean lines - really solid stuff.
"Anonymous" - 'll try to answer as much of your questions as I can, but I gotta pee.
1. All I know is He works there now.
2. Harold works at The Art Institute in San Diego.
3-7. Ask Joe :) Actually he was here at Legoland for 4 days to train. He's very good because he works very hard at it. Most of the advice I learned from Joe was to get a mentor and have challenges that make you acheive excellence.
Dave - Thanks alot! I do try to keep my lines very clean, by washing them daily and never using the 3 second rule when I drop them. You impressed me to at the San Diego Con. The one you did of Andrea was hilarious man!
Okay, there I did! Happy!?! Thanks Pag, I forgot that the sun doesn't rise or set for you unless you can look at some new ugly pictures of pretty children.
The Gabertron!
The mermaid chick looks like she's supposed to be holding something. If it were a mer-dude, I'd suggest having him "choking the dolphin".
So when you comin' up to sketch at PGA? They're actually letting me learn caricatures up here!!
I'll be there April 16,17.
Get ready for Obliteration Time!
